American Tapestry to perform in Rugby
The Heart of America Concert Series is back in town Sunday evening (Nov. 23).
American Tapestry, a trio of female musicians, will take the stage at Tilman Hovland Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
American Tapestry includes founder Robin Spielberg (piano, vocals), Kate MacLeod (vocals, guitar, fiddle) and Stephanie Winters (cello, hand percussion).
According to the group’s page on therootsagency.com, “The trio delights audiences with the music that, over generations, has become woven into the fabric of American culture. From the Civil War to the Gold Rush to the great wave of immigration during the first half of the 20th Century, these songs chronicle journeys, hardships and loves won and lost, all the while celebrating the beauty and majesty of America. Fresh and innovative arrangements of these precious American gems are interwoven with new music and the stories that inspired them.”
Spielberg, a Steinway Artist since 1996, is classically trained and graduated from New York University with honors and a bachelor’s degree of fine arts. She began her solo career in New York City and has 16 recordings to her credit, according to the artist’s website.
A discussion with students at a career day visit to her daughter’s school motivated her to start American Tapestry in 2011.
Special guest vocalist Valerie Kosson also performs with the group on occasion.
Spielberg lives in rural Pennsylvania with her husband and their daughter, when she’s not on tour. Winters, who has also performed globally, splits time between the United States and the United Kingdom with her husband. MacLeod calls Utah home.
American Tapesty is on a nine-stop tour through the midwest. The tour opened Nov. 14 in Pontiac, Ill. The group was Dickinson on Friday, performs in Williston tonight and ends its North Dakota portion of the tour in Rugby on Sunday. Two shows in Minnesota conclude the tour.
