Jelsing wins national award for museum site

By Staff | Sep 19, 2014

Prairie Village Museum executive director Cathy Jelsing received first place in the National Federation of Press Women Communications contest for editing or managing a nonprofit, government or educational website. The award was announced at the NFPW national conference Sept. 6 in Greenville, S.C.

Jelsing created prairievillagemuseum.com using Wix, a cloud-based web development platform. The new site launched in February.

“I think that when the board hired me, part of the goal was to raise our standards across the board,” Jelsing said, “and one of my areas of expertise is marketing and advertising. (Before) people travel, they go to the Internet.”

The website took first place at the state level before advancing to the national competition. The state competition is put on by North Dakota Professional Communicators, an NFPW affiliate. Jelsing is a longtime member of the NDPC and former president.
