Bischoff named Aug. Volunteer of Month

By Staff | Aug 29, 2014

Ashley Burkhartsmeier/PCT DeeDee Bischoff is the chamber’s Volunteer of the Month for August.

DeeDee Bischoff is a staple in the community when it comes to volunteering.

If Bischoff isn’t volunteering at First Lutheran Church, you can probably find her giving time to the Heart of America Concert Series, Prairie Village Museum and more.

Bischoff was selected as August’s Volunteer of the Month by the Rugby Area Chamber of Commerce.

“I?feel really honored, but I don’t know why I was singled out when there are so many people who do more than I do,” Bischoff said.

The response is indicitive of her selfless nature and willingness to help out whenever and wherever. Bischoff also works part-time at KZZJ Radio in Rugby.

“She’s a great volunteer,” said Pat Bye, Friends of the Museum president. “She’s willing to help whenever she’s available to help and it’s nice to have dependable volunteers. That helps make it successful. If she can help she will.”

Bischoff is membership co-chair for the concert series.

“She’s a gem to work with,” series director Tilman Hovland said. “She’s always willing to help out. She puts in time at the hospital reading to people. She’s always willing to volunteer. She always does her job head-first style.”

Bischoff has volunteered at the museum for a couple years, the concert series for about seven years and First Luthern for 48 years.

“I think we just have a great church community and it’s good fellowship to work together,” she said.
