Tim Chapman/PCT Search and rescue crews use sonar to locate the body of young male from rural Maddock on Sunday at Buffalo Lake.

RURAL ESMOND – The body of 20-year-old Andrew Pranke from rural Maddock was recovered about 2:15 p.m., July 6, from Buffalo Lake, according to Pierce County Sheriff Matt Lunde.

Search and rescue crews first responded to a 911 call at 10:40 p.m., June 5, when the male was reported missing from a boat. Active search of the lake, in an area about three-quarters of a mile south of N.D. 19, was suspended about 1:30 a.m. due to lack of light. One boat checked the shoreline until about 3 a.m., according to Lunde.

The search resumed shortly after daybreak.

The body was taken to Grand Forks for an autopsy and the incident is still under investigation. No foul play is suspected.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Viking Lutheran Church south of Maddock, according to a Facebook page titled “In Loving Memory of Andrew Pranke”.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Burleigh County and Bismarck Rural Fire water recovery team, Rugby Ambulance and Fire, units from Esmond and Devils Lake, North Dakota Game and Fish and Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
