Pierce County Fair ready to roll
It’s almost time for the Pierce County Fair to start, and it runs July 2-6. There are some new additions this year, including the demolition derby, which is back for the first time in about 10 years.
“We’re very excited to utilize the land on the east side of the fairgrounds,” said Fair Board President Don Jelsing. “There was money raised for the purpose of having a demo derby about 15 years ago and now they can put that to use.”
Another new attraction is the Young Guns Wild West Fun Park, sponsored by Merchants Bank and Bremer Bank. This venue is for kids 10 and under and is a western-themed attraction. There also is a local caricature artist, Austin Schmaltz, coming to the fair sponsored by the North Dakota Council of the Arts and Joy Dental Design. A dunking booth put on by Bethany Lutheran and First Lutheran churches’ youth is another new addition this year.
The Mighty Thomas Carnival returns this year for rides. Fairgoers can pay $20 per day to ride everything or $1 per ride ticket. The McHumble Petting Zoo will be at the fair this year. If you are into photography, there’s now a photography show and contest. The Not-So-Newlywed Game on July 4, features couples from North Star Credit Union, Ramsey Bank, Bremer Bank and Merchants Bank. The Ranch Rodeo returns on July 6.
Fargo band 32 Below is returning to play this year on July 3 from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Harvey band Jumpstart, who recently won the North Dakota State FFA Talent Competition, opens for them 8:30 p.m. There is also a performance from Fargo band BoomTown on July 5 at 9 p.m.
“We have to keep the fair staples, but we also have to keep it fresh,” Jelsing said.
