County commission holds special meeting

By Staff | Jun 20, 2014

The county commissioners met Tuesday for a special meeting and discussed two main items of concern: applicants for the community service coordinator position and the motion for a pay increase for all Heart of America Correctional Center (HACTC) employees.

The community service position has been vacant for some time and the county commissioners needed someone to fill its shoes. However, the first applicant offered the job by the commissioners declined. the second applicant still has yet to respond.

Currently, Yvonne Hagan has been working part-time in the community service coordinator position. The county has been serching for applicants to fill the position.

A motion passed on June 3 had been giving commissioners second thoughts. The motion was intended to give a $2 pay increase to all HACTC employees. However, the commissioners voted to revisit the motion during the meeting and revised it so only security employees would get the raise. Non-security employees may still get the raise based on a salary study and the administration’s discretion.
