HAMC honors volunteers at luncheon
The Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon for the Heart of America Medical Center Volunteers was held on April 24 at First Lutheran Church. In the past fiscal year, 151 volunteers recorded 13,132 hours at the Haaland Estates, Acute Care, Care Center, Hospice and Clinic. The Volunteer of the Year went to Kathryn Volk for her many years and hours of dedicated service to the Heart of America Medical Center. Volk began volunteering in 2004 and has recorded over 2,000 hours of volunteer services to HAMC. She began her volunteer work doing hair care for the residents at the Care Center. She delivers the Tribune on Mondays to the Care Center residents, assists with Rosary and Mass on Wednesday mornings and helps with Bingo every Friday at the Care Center. Volk also assists with special events at the Haaland and Care Center, fundraising events and has been known as Mrs. Claus for a number of years. She is truly a godsend for HAMC she has the best sense of humor and always wears a smile as she goes about her work.
Fifty hour pins and certificates were handed out to the volunteers and special awards were given. Receiving an award for the most hours for the fiscal year was Gayle Schneibel, who put in 567 hours. Margaret Wittmayer received an award for the most accumulated hours at 8,233. Four volunteers received plaques for over 2,000 hours of service Bev Paul, Marge Heilman, Kathryn Volk and Frank Volk. Vonnie Degenstein received an award for over 5,000 hours of volunteer service and Schneibel and Wittmayer were awarded gifts for over 8,000 hours of volunteer service.
Volunteers receiving their 50 hour pins were Alan Kreklau, Suzie Schmaltz, Eileen Pieterick and Jerry Thomas; 100 hour certificates went to Ida Vrem, Edie Dunham, Vicky Harmel, Shelley Block and Donna Christenson; 200 hour certificates went to Trudy Lenzmeier, Myrna Muffenbier, Ann Mack and Susan Harmel; 300 hour certificates went to Earl Loken, Laurie Odden, Jan Norsby, Rose Selensky and Lynda Childress; 400 hour certificates went to Charolette Wurgler, Mary Ann Koble, Lois Marchus, Peggy Oksendahl, Janice Knutson, Lois Volk, Doris Tank and Janet Johnston; 500 hour certificates went to Larry Pieterick, Janet Miller and Richard Volk; 600 hour certificates went to Sandy Mongeon, Christine Axtmann, Pat Ley, Ann Hager, Edie Wurgler; 700 hour certificates went to Donna Lennon and Rita Teigen; 800 hour certificates went to Lucy Fossum, Bernie Volk, Dianne Montonye and Monica Grove; 900 hour certificates went to Mary Schneider and Diane Leier; 1,000 hour certificates went to Deb Hoffert, Grace Paul, Arlyne Rothschiller and Marian Schmaltz; 1,100 hour certificates went to Joyce Meier, Arlene Schmaltz, Guynell Meyer and Agatha Mattern; 1,300 hour certificates went to Gerry Brenno and Susan Anderson; 1,400 hour certificate went to Tommy Moller, Judy Paulsen, Marlene Schaan and Harriet Kreklau; 1,600 hour certificates went to Sid Nelson; 1,700 hour certificates went to Rita Bercier and Loretta Richard; 1,900 hour certificate went to Leila Lehmann; 2,000 hour certificates went to Kathryn Volk; 2,100 hour certificates went to Bev Paul and Marge Heilman; 2,200 hour certificate went to Frank Volk; 2,700 hour certificate went to Irene Hager; 3,500 hour certificates went to Lillian Massine and Linda Wurgler; 3,700 hour certificate went to Wanda Nielsen; 4,500 hour certificate went to Theresa Brossart; 4,600 hour certificate went to Ruth Fedje; 5,100 hour certificate went to Vonnie Degenstein; 5,200 hour certificate went to Vivian Loken; 6,300 hour certificate went to Alma Bickler; 8,100 hour certificate went to Gayle Schneibel; and 8,200 hour certificate went to Margaret Wittmayer.
