Tim Chapman/PCT Josh Siegler, a candidate for Pierce County Sheriff, greets a supporter at his first public event April 5 at the American Legion Hall in Rugby.

Josh Siegler, one of two challengers in this year’s Pierce County Sheriff’s race, was the first candidate to hold an event in election season.

Siegler, a deputy in Ward County, is challenging incumbent Matt Lunde. Former Rugby Police Chief Luis Coca is also in the race.

Siegler hosted about 50 supporters at a dinner April 5 at the American Legion Hall in Rugby.

“It’s a lot of work, but it’s important to get out and talk to people,” Siegler said. “That’s why I wanted to do something like this.”

Among Siegler’s supporters is Pierce County Board of Commissioners chairman Duane Johnston, who attended the function.

“He does a good job, he’s up front with things and tells it like it is,” Johnston said.
