JDA discusses costs of infrastructure on new lots

By Staff | Apr 10, 2014

The Rugby Job Development Authority held a regular meeting on Wednesday.

The JDA is looking to do more research in order to figure out how “specials” or costs of all infrastructure will be charged on new lots.

All lots are assessed for water, sewer and streets and the cost per year ranges depending on the size of the lot. An average cost for lots at the Chalmers Addition is $4,000 per year. The JDA assumes the cost of a lot until it is sold. Members of the JDA discussed whether buyers should have to pay up front or work the costs into a mortgage.

The JDA approved a motion for interim director Syann Graber to write a letter of support for a couple looking to purchase the old apartment building across from Memorial Hall on Third Street. The prospective owners are looking to repair the building and manage 10 apartments.

Graber also stated that there are a lot of potential new projects coming to the city.

“Some are existing businesses and new businesses that will be very beneficial to the community,” Graber said. “We’ve been getting so many more calls from developers down south in Florida and California. They want to know what we have to offer. It’s a lot more (inquiries) than we’ve ever had.”.
