The Rugby Park Board met for the first time this year with a regular meeting on March 20.

The board approved two motions, including a $6,000 donation for the Lions Club’s 19th annual Music in the Park concert series.

The Lions Club will also receive $1,500 from the board to help replace shingles on the Mark J. Carlson Memorial Gazebo in Ellery Park.

Former Lions president and current member Dale Niewohner said the roof of the gazebo hasn’t been reshingled since it was built in 1995.

“It was kind of (Carlson’s) dream to have the Music in the Park,” Niewohner said. “A good summer or two before he got sick we started building it, and it was pretty much done by the time he died. Just before he died, the club decided to name it in his memory.”

Niewohner said the support from the park board for Music in the Park has been great.

“They’ve supported the Music in the Park program since it started ,and this year they pumped it up,” he said.
