ATV driver injured in train collision

An all-terrain vehicle driven by an unidentified male struck a train at a railroad crossing one mile east of Rugby, according to a press release from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident happened about 1:59 p.m. on March 13 as an Amtrak train was heading westbound toward Rugby. The ATV was heading southbound on the gravel road toward the railroad crossing.

The driver was transported to Heart of America Medical Center for unknown injuries and later taken to Trinity Hospital in Minot.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s department responded along with Rugby Police, the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation and highway patrol. Rugby Ambulance and Fire Department also responded.

The collision caused disabling damage to the ATV and minimal damage to the train. No Amtrak passengers were injured. The accident remains under investigation.

Authorities investigate Towner shooting

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting about 2:45 a.m. on March 12.

One male was shot, but did not sustain life-threatening injuries. The sheriff’s department received a call regarding domestic violence, according to a press release from McHenry County State’s Attorney Cassey A. Breyer.

A female was charged with aggravated assault and placed under arrest before being taken to Heart of America Correctional and Treatment Center.

Breyer is awaiting for an official police report and said the individuals involved are not being identified as the investigation is ongoing. Any related charges are pending.
