Josh Siegler, 35, is the third candidate to officially announce himself in the race for Pierce County Sheriff.

Siegler is currently a deputy sheriff in Ward County and previously served in the same capacity with Pierce County from 2008 to 2013. Siegler served as acting sheriff in Pierce County from October 2012 to January 2013 when incumbent Matt Lunde was on leave.

“I left the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 with full intentions of running for sheriff in the 2014 election,” Siegler said in a press release. “I still reside in Rugby and commute back and forth to Minot daily because I enjoy living in the community. I like the people of Pierce County and think that it’s a great place to raise children.”

Siegler and his wife, Kelsey, parents to Tucker Zinck, 5, and Wynnie, 1, are expecting their third child in May.

The Iraq War veteran and former Marine has 15 years of combined law enforcement and military experience. He was a deputy sheriff in Benson County before serving in the Marine Corps. Siegler was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and Oceanside, Calif. Following his time in the service, he joined the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

“I have learned a great deal working in the Ward County Sheriff’s Office. I would like to bring back what I have learned and make the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office a better department,” Siegler said. “I agree with (other challenger) Mr. Luis Coca that the office of sheriff needs to have a higher level of professionalism and responsibility. The citizens of Pierce County deserve to have someone in office they can trust and someone who is capable of being a long-term solution.”

Siegler also previously worked part time for the City of Rugby and assisted in prisoner transports for Heart of America Correctional and Treatment Center. He is a member of the Rugby American Legion and Rugby Eagles Club.
