Amtrak coming through Rugby again

By Staff | Mar 11, 2014

Tim Chapman/PCT The Amtrak Empire Builder train rolls into Rugby on Thursday at about 10:50 a.m. The westbound route was resumed March 1 after increased traffic and severe weather temporarily stopped the service.

As of March 1, the westbound route of the Amtrak Empire Builder train is once again coming through Rugby. Due to increased traffic on the railroads and a severe winter, Amtrak had to bus passengers to and from Fargo and Minot. The eastbound routes will continue as usual.

Members of North Dakota’s delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate had called for better service along the Burlington Northern Sante Fe line.

“It is good news that BNSF has heeded our call and Amtrak will be able to resume a normal schedule,” Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) said in a press release. “In multiple conversations with BNSF, I made it clear that the poor level of Amtrak service in many North Dakota communities was absolutely unacceptable. North Dakotans have made important investments in lines that carry Amtrak in our state, and we deserve reliable service.”

The westbound train is scheduled to leave Rugby at 7:07 a.m., daily. The eastbound train is scheduled to leave Rugby at 10:38 p.m., daily.
