Gentle dental

By Staff | Jan 10, 2014

Practitioners of “gentle dental care” will be coming to main street in Rugby as soon as next month.

Joy Dental Design, a dental practice with offices in Hazen and Watford City, will be housed in the old R&L building (132 S Main Ave). Construction is expected to be completed by early February, and the clinic will have its grand opening on February 17. The clinic is currently hiring dental assistants, dental hygienists and office managers, and it is also taking appointments.

Rugby native Mike Jelsing runs the business aspects of the clinics, via a company called Joy Dental Management, while his wife, Priscila, will handle dentistry. A Brazil native, Priscila originally practiced dentistry and periodontics there before moving to the U.S. Jelsing met her when she was visiting relatives in Tulsa, Okla. After moving stateside, she got her American general dentist license in 2010. Shortly after they bought the clinic in Hazen. They operated out of there for a year-and-a-half, and then they started a clinic in Watford City with a full-time dentist.

The clinic in Rugby will also bring in a full-time dentist, Dr. Lisi Dewa-Dube, who will be there from 8-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Priscila will practice orthodontics.

Joy Dental Design strives to bring about a setting and experience in contrast to a typical dentist visit.

“Our goal is [for you] to say, ‘That didn’t feel like a dental procedure at all’,” Jelsing said. “The best thing we strive for every time is ‘I didn’t feel that’.”

In the building will be a fireplace, leather chairs (which have massaging capabilities), and pleasant individuals-which are designed to facilitate in relaxing patients and keeping them comfortable.

The clinic is set up to grow as the community grows. Associated with the clinic with regards to need is a nonprofit organization called Carousel of Smiles. The organization puts on special events as well as seeks funds from grants and other foundations to help those in what Jelsing calls a “dental gap” (those who make too much money for government assistance but not enough to afford dental care) get the care they need.

A soft opening is also planned for February 10, depending on how many who are in need of dental care schedule an appointment. The clinic’s number is 776-7700 and the clinic’s website is rugbydentist.com
