HAMC receives grant for daycare

By Staff | Oct 11, 2013

Heart of America Medical Center was awarded a grant from the state of North Dakota to help with the construction of a daycare center. Kidz Next Door will serve the employees of HAMC and will be located on the first and second floor of the Professional Building (the old nurse’s dorm) which is owned by the hospital.

Some of the key drivers that led to HAMC pursuing this daycare grant are: Pierce County is 75 percent underserved when it comes to daycares available, meaning, the need for licensed daycare providers/facilities is much greater than Pierce County has available. Plus the fact that many employees work shift work, which means they require early morning, night and weekend care for their children. Having a daycare center available extended hours, will help not only with staff retention but also recruitment.

Rugby native, Lyndsey (Grove) Graner was hired in September as the Daycare Director. Graner graduated from Moorhead State University in December 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood. She worked at the Grand Forks Air Force Base Child Development Center for 5 years as a supervisor/teacher. She will be overseeing the development of the new daycare and manage it upon completion.

“I’m excited to be part of this project and I’m up for this new challenge in my career.” I believe this will be a beneficial addition to HAMC” said Graner.
