Sanford incorporating HAMC health plan

On July 1, 2013, Heart of America Health Plan, located in Rugby, North Dakota, became a subsidiary of Sanford Health Plan. Late last year the two organizations began discussions with the North Dakota Insurance Department.

All employees of Heart of America Health Plan will remain at the Rugby office and existing insurance plans and provider contracts will be preserved; all members will be able to keep their preferred physician/provider.

“This is not only a step in the right direction for our organization, but for our members, as well,” said Heart of America Health Plan Executive Director Mary Ann Jaeger.

Heart of America Health Plan members will have access to more plan options, expanded prescription drug coverage, access to a national provider network, and more tools and resources to improve their overall health.

“For Sanford Health Plan, the partnership will expand and diversify the types of health insurance products it offers individuals, families and employer groups,” says Ruth Krystopolski, Sanford Health Plan President.

Heart of America Health Plan was founded in 1982 as a locally administered, non-profit cooperative. Today it has almost 1,200 members and is the longest standing independent Health Maintenance Organization in North Dakota.

Heart of America Health Plan offers coverage options to people with Medicare, employer groups, families and individuals located in the Rugby, Minot and Bottineau, North Dakota area.
