One arrest at Pierce County checkpoint
On June 29, 2013, the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, Rugby Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint north of Rugby on ND Highway 3 at mile marker 203. The checkpoint was held from approximately 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
One hundred forty one vehicles passed through the checkpoint and two drivers had been consuming alcohol and were evaluated further for possible impairment. One driver was arrested for drunk driving during the checkpoint.
The primary purpose of the sobriety checkpoint was to heighten awareness and to deter citizens from choosing to drink and drive.
Immediately following the checkpoint, NDHP troopers, Pierce County deputies, and police officers from the Rugby Police Department patrolled throughout the Pierce County area, focusing on apprehending alcohol impaired drivers.

Sanford incorporating HAMC health plan
On July 1, 2013, Heart of America Health Plan, located in Rugby, North Dakota, became a subsidiary of Sanford Health Plan. Late last year the two organizations began discussions with the North Dakota Insurance Department.
All employees of Heart of America Health Plan will remain at the Rugby office and existing insurance plans and provider contracts will be preserved; all members will be able to keep their preferred physician/provider.
“This is not only a step in the right direction for our organization, but for our members, as well,” said Heart of America Health Plan Executive Director Mary Ann Jaeger.
Heart of America Health Plan members will have access to more plan options, expanded prescription drug coverage, access to a national provider network, and more tools and resources to improve their overall health.
“For Sanford Health Plan, the partnership will expand and diversify the types of health insurance products it offers individuals, families and employer groups,” says Ruth Krystopolski, Sanford Health Plan President.
Heart of America Health Plan was founded in 1982 as a locally administered, non-profit cooperative. Today it has almost 1,200 members and is the longest standing independent Health Maintenance Organization in North Dakota.
Heart of America Health Plan offers coverage options to people with Medicare, employer groups, families and individuals located in the Rugby, Minot and Bottineau, North Dakota area.
