Sheriff’s office hires new deputy

By Staff | Apr 22, 2013

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has hired a new deputy.

Taylor Schiller, a Grafton native, worked his first day on April 2, after spending about a year on the Harvey Police Department.

“I haven’t met a whole lot of people so far, but I’m from a small town,” Schiller said. “It kind of reminds me of where I grew up, so it’s the kind of atmosphere I like.”

Before starting in law enforcement, Schiller worked as the general manager at Ferguson Books and Media in Grand Forks, and was a park ranger at Grahams Island State Park near Devils Lake.

Schiller, 24, graduated from the Peace Officer Training through Lake Region State College in Grand Forks.

He is excited to get into the job, and hopes to settle in the community.

“It’ll be a lot more flexibility,” he said. “I’ll be looking to buy a house, so it will be more of a long-term thing.”

Schiller also enjoys fishing and basketball, and is in a rock band called State & Rush.
