Jim Teigen of Rugby was re-elected as the District 2 Director at the North Dakota Farmers Union state convention on Nov. 16-17 in Grand Forks, according to an NDFU release.

The NDFU membership also voted to re-elect President Elwood “Woody” Barth, Vice President Bob Kuylen, District 4 Director Jim Kerzman and District 6 Director Ellen Linderman.

The convention also featured sessions on taxes, the fertilizer market, oil mineral rights, supplemental insurance and long-term care insurance, the release said.

National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson accepted a check for $11,073 from NDFU for the Feeding America project, funds which were raised through the summer youth camp co-op store and matching funds from the NDFU Board of Directors.

“For the second year in a row, Farmers Union members really stepped up to meet Howard Buffett’s challenge and showed they really care about the less fortunate among us,” Johnson said.

Former Senator Byron Dorgan was the convention’s keynote speaker.

“This country must be prepared to put America on a better path,” Dorgan said. “We need to do better. It is important for all of us to keep an eye on the future. We all understand the ability to do things together. It’s more powerful than what we do alone. That’s cooperative spirit.”

The release said Dorgan answered questions from the audience and concluded by saying, “Farmers Union has always been an organization to represent our rural interests, to push ahead and to step up to lead. That’s what we need to do to make America a better place. That’s why I’ll always have Farmers Union in my heart.”
