Rugby to celebrate 1st annual wind harvest festival

By Staff | Sep 14, 2012

Rugby will be celebrating their first Annual Wind Harvest Festival on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8. The festival is to recognize the contribution the Rugby Wind Farm has provided to Pierce County, both in wind energy savings and tax revenue.

The whole county will be celebrating beginning on Friday, Sept. 7 with a Quilt Show from 3-9 p.m. at Hometown Quilting. On Saturday, the Quilt Show will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 5 p.m.

A Strange Veggie Contest will be held at the Senior Center in Rugby from 3-9 p.m. on Friday, and 10:00 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday. Bring what nature has created in to be displayed at the Senior Center for all to see.

A celebration wouldn’t be complete without food. Not only does downtown Rugby offer a 1940s-style restaurant, a place known for good steaks, several bars for hors d’oeuvres, and a coffee shop for lattes and tea, but on the highway there is a pizza place, an ice cream place, four family restaurants, and a sandwich shop. These are located on both the north and south sides of Highway 2. In addition food vendors will be bringing in specialty foods from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Pierce County Fairgrounds.

Rugby is trying the Funky Junk Show this year. This will be held at the Community Center at the fairgrounds from 4-9 on Friday and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday. This is a popular event among those who look for antiques, special items, and other creative items. Come out and see what this is all about.

On Friday evening, “Rhyme or Reason” will play at the grandstand on the fairgrounds in Rugby from 8 p.m. – midnight. A beer garden will be available.

The Rugby Firemen’s Auxiliary Breakfast will be served at the fairgrounds from 7:30 – 11 a.m. on Saturday. Spend the day wandering from event to event in both downtown Rugby and the fairgrounds.

The Farmers Market will be open from 8-11 a.m. at the junctions of Highway #2 and Highway #3.

From 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Rugby Park District Community Center (on the fairgrounds) the following events will be held: Funky Junk and Vendor Booths. Food vendors will be set up on the grounds, as well.

Three family activities are offered at the fairgrounds on Saturday. A kite decorating/flying contest will be held from 1-2 p.m. A face painting contest will be held from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. A Nickel Scramble for the younger set will be held from 2-4 p.m.

Meanwhile, in downtown Rugby, A Classic Car Show will be on display from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Quilt Show will be on display from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Old Time German/Norsky music will be played by Lee Hagen from 2-4 p.m. at the Merchants Bank Park.

Get out and visit friends and neighbors and enjoy the last of the summer with a day in Rugby. Bring the family and stay all day.
