Just for Kix is coming back to Rugby. Sue Schaan taught the dance classes for children until just a few years ago.

Nicole Steffan, Devils Lake, is opening up Just For Kix dance classes at the Rugby armory beginning in September. She has been teaching with Just for Kix for six years. Before that she was a member of Devils Lake High School Dance Team.

Steffan is well-qualified and is a member of the North Dakota Association for Dance and Drill. She has served as a state judge for the past six years.

She is moving to Granville, where she is a paraprofessional at TGU Elementary School.

Registration for Just for Kix will be held at the Rugby Armory, south classroom from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29 and Thursday, August 30. She accepts children from age 3 through eighth grade with all levels of ability. Parents will get a schedule when they come to register their children.

The dance classes will start on Tuesday, September 11. If someone didn’t get a chance to pre-register, just come to the first class and register at that time.

Cindy Clough, Brainerd, Minn., is the founder of Just for Kix. She has a state-of-the-art studio in Brainerd, according to Steffan. Steffan met Clough at a Director’s Convention in Brainerd.

The classes provide not only dance skills, but build confidence in the children. The dance students interact and learn as a team. Rugby will offer high kick, jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop and lyrical dance instruction. The kids learn to have fun while staying physically fit. Basic placement and technique are a major focus of the program, along with flexibility and strength training. The instructor works with the young dancers to create good habits.

“Take care of the little things and big things will happen” is the philosophy of Clough.

The dancers will participate in several performances throughout the season at various events. The dancers will wear only one costume for each class for the year. Every class starts on time and ends on time.
