1st annual wind harvest festival set for Sept. 7 & 8
The 1st Annual Wind Harvest Festival has been set for Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8 in Rugby. This two-day, fun-filled festival is sponsored by the 2012 Pierce County Wind Harvest Festival committee, Rugby Chamber/CVB, and the Rugby Job Development Authority.
The committee has planned activities for people of all ages. The fun begins at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 with a Quilt Show at Hometown Quilting in downtown Rugby. The quilt show will be open for viewing from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
A Strange Veggie Contest will be held at the Senior Citizens Center from 3:00-9:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to show others some of the odd vegetables nature creates.
Several activities will be held at the fairgrounds in Rugby. From 4-9 p.m. food vendors will be selling a variety of taste tempting treats. A Funky Junk Show will be held from 4:00-9:00 p.m. in the community center at the fairgrounds.
Friday evening will be capped off with the band Rhyme or Reason playing at the grandstand from 8:00 p.m. – Midnight. A beer garden will be provided by Crooks and 3rd St. Station.
On Saturday the festival begins with a breakfast from 7:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the fairgrounds. The breakfast is sponsored by the Rugby Firemen’s Auxiliary. A Farmers Market will be held at 8 a.m. – 11a.m. at the junction of highways #2 and #3. The Funky Junk Show will be on from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the community center at the fairgrounds. Vendor booths will be featured in the community center with food booths on the fairgrounds from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Also on the fairgrounds on Saturday will be Face Painting by Marie’s Blessings Relay for Life team from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Meanwhile downtown, the Quilt Show at Hometown Quilting will continue from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The Strange Veggie Contest will be held for a second day at the Senior Center from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
A Classic Car Show will have vehicles on display downtown.
From 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., a kite decorating and flying contest will take place at the fairgrounds. Come and try this windy activity or just come and watch the kids having fun.
From 2:00-4:00 p.m., enjoy the sound of Old Time German/Norsky music provided by Lee Hagen at the Merchants Bank Park in downtown Rugby.
A Nickel Scramble for the kids is set for 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the fairgrounds
