Library concludes summer program

By Staff | Aug 16, 2012

The Heart of America Library concluded the Summer Reading Program on Monday, July 23, 2012.

The Summer Reading Program served, on average, 40 children per week ranging from grades 1-6. The Reading Program’s theme was, “Dream Big-Read”. When the children came to the library each week, they studied different topics relating to the theme.

They learned about dreams, and they made their own dreamcatchers. They reviewed stars and planets, and they created their own planets and constellations. When they studied about owls, bats and fireflies, they made their own firefly scene in a night sky.

During the ninety minutes the children were given at the library, twenty minutes were spent reading in the library. The children were each given a star on the wall to represent the number of minutes they were reading. They received one point for every thirty minutes they read. For each point, their names went into a box for the grand prize drawing of two bikes.

The two winners of the bikes were Jantz Buckmeier in the younger division, and Gabriella Sullivan in the older division. There were numerous other prizes given away that were donated by people and businesses. Sponsors of the Summer Reading Program included Rugby Eagles, Peg Stadum, Pamida, Schaan Oil, Pizza Hut, i design, Hardware Hank, Subway, and Theone Stevenson.

The Summer Reading Program was under the direction of Angela Kitzman, program coordinator, with the help of the Library staff- Amanda, Vicky, and Sheila.
