Rugby’s Lambda chapter hosts Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
The Lambda chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International hosted the 2012 Alpha Omicron State Workshop in Rugby, June 13 and 14, at the Northern Lights Inn/Dakota Farms.
Sixty-eight members from 16 chapters from across North Dakota attended the two-day event. Lambda co-chairpersons for the event were Deb Zavada and Jan Repnow. The theme of the workshop was “Embracing Our Vision-Designing our Future.” State president-Becki Anhorn, Nu, presided. Other state officers in attendance were 1st Vice President-Lisa M. Olson, Gamma; 2nd Vice President-Peggy Donahe, Tau; Secretary-Jan Repnow, Lambda; Treasurer-Elaine Larson, Gamma; Parliamentarian-Diana Schneider, Theta; Immediate Past President-Karen Walz, Gamma.
Rugby Mayor Dave Cichos, welcomed guests to Rugby. The flags were presented by the Rugby Jr. Girl Scouts. The guest speaker for the workshop was Deb Boyer, elementary school counselor in the West Fargo School District, who is a Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA) trainer. Nurtured Heart promotes the realization of one’s positive qualities and strengthens relationships wherever you may be. Other workshop sessions included State Committee reorganization, Strategic Action Planning (SAP), and Teachers Helping Another Teacher (THAT).
The Delta chapter led the Founder’s Day ceremony and Beta chapter led the Birthday ceremony. The luncheon speaker was Deb Zavada, “Living a Centered Life.” A silent auction was held with each of the 16 chapters donating a gift basket. Over $600 was generated for the International Emergency Fund.
Iota and Psi chapter will host the 2013 convention to be held at Dickinson State University.
Entertainment at the evening banquet was the Nostalgic Apron Strings by Jan Repnow with apron models by the Lambda chapter members. Participants had an opportunity to enjoy many of Rugby attractions: Prairie Village Museum, Northern Lights Tower & Kiosk, Dakota Hills Winery, Victorian Dress Museum, Niewoehner Bell Tower, Music in the Park, and a book signing at the Heart of America Library.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary Society of women educators totaling over 150,000 members in 17 countries.
