New housing possible
Rugby will be welcoming Annabelle Homes into the community for an open house on Monday, July 30 from 3-8 p.m.
From 10:00 a.m. – 2 p.m. individuals interested in building a new house in the new development, Chalmers Addition, can meet one-on-one with Dean Davolis, who is leading the project. Prospective homeowners may contact the Rugby Job Development office at 776-7655 for more information or to set up an appointment with. Mr. Davolis for that day.
Annabelle Homes is a Minneapolis-based housing development company with a well-established team of experienced investors and developers. Dean Dovolis, founder of DJR-Architecture, Inc., Minneapolis, is the lead principal on the team and will be speaking in Rugby at the open house.
The company believes in building energy efficient homes because of their comfort and they save money for the homeowner. They also have good re-sale value. Annabelle Homes, instead of standard frame construction, uses Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) or Stick Framed construction. These construction methods will be discussed at the meeting.
The company has been helping to rebuild Minot after the flood and is working on a housing and commercial project in Stanley, ND. They, in fact, have a plan to build in several northwest North Dakota communities.
Brenda Foster, executive director, JDA, a few JDA board members and city council members toured a number of homes built by Annabelle Homes in Stanley. Foster said the group was pleased with what they saw.
“Annabelle Homes would be working hand-in-hand with Rugby’s engineer,” said Foster.
She added that anyone interested in looking at the sketch of the development created by Annabelle Homes is invited to stop by the JDA office in Harley’s Mall, anytime during the day between now and the July 30 meeting and take a look.
In a special meeting of the JDA board held on June 26, it was noted that Annabelle Homes is very flexible concerning the lot size and the mix of housing, including senior-friendly market rate rental housing. They are also flexible in working with local area home builders as long as they meet the quality requirements consistent with Annabelle’s other housing structures, which should not be a problem in the Rugby area. They also want to hire local labor where possible.
Once they have a commitment to build from 20 people, Annabelle Homes would be able to move forward with the project. They would market and pre-sell the lots/homes. Anyone interested in purchasing a lot and having a home built or in renting a senior unit once they are built needs to come to this meeting to learn more. Anyone interested in housing is welcome to attend. This meeting is open to the public.
“Rugby is centrally-located on the Highway 2 corridor and there is opportunity to expand our business community, increase our population, and provide a quality of life second to none,” said Foster.
Annabelle Homes is currently hosting a booth at the State Fair in Minot with information concerning the Rugby housing development project.
