Wind Harvest Festival set for September 7&8

By Staff | Jul 13, 2012

The Pierce County Wind Harvest Festival has been set for Friday, Sept. 7, and Saturday, Sept. 8 in Rugby. The Rugby JDA and Chamber/CVB are in the process of planning the activities for this two-day event.

Iberdrola Renewables dedicated the Rugby Wind Power Project in the fall of 2010 and recommended that we plan a festival much like the other communities that Iberdrola Renewables have invested in with their wind farms. The Pierce County Wind Harvest Festival is the result.

The committee is looking for organizations and businesses to participate in this fall community event. Each organization and/or business can pick an event and sponsor it or make it a fundraiser for their organization.

The following are ideas the committee has tentatively scheduled for Friday, Sept. 7: a quilt show in the afternoon, strange veggies contest at Rugby Senior Center in the afternoon, Karaoke in Merchants Park from 5-7 p.m., A Taste of Rugby from 4-7 p.m, face painting 4-7 p.m. in downtown Rugby, farmer’s market/funky junk (times and location TBA) and a street dance featuring ROR in downtown Rugby in the evening. On Saturday, Sept. 8, the Rugby Fireman’s Auxiliary will serve a breakfast from 7:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., face painting (need a sponsor), a Quilt Show at Hometown Quilting, strange veggies contest at senior center, kite decorating/kite flying contest (need a sponsor), car show/artist vendor show (need a sponsor), old time German music from 2-4 p.m. in downtown Rugby, farmers’ market/funky junk from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (location TBA), Petting Zoo at fairgrounds, and a nickel scramble from 2-4 p.m. at fairgrounds. The Pierce County Wind Harvest Festival will be featuring Rhyme or Reason (ROR) a popular band from Fargo to kick off Friday night with a street dance. Rodell Jelleberg the lead singer has local roots to Bottineau and the band just recently kicked off their second CD and can be found on I-Tunes.

On Saturday, there will be an “Old Time” German music fest located downtown at the Merchants Bank Park. On Saturday, the Pierce County Fairgrounds will be hosting a “Funky Junk Sale and Farmers Market. We are asking organizations and individuals to contact Shelley Block, Rugby Chamber of Commerce 701-776-5846 for more information or details. There will be something for everyone!!
