At the Rugby Recreation baseball, softball and volleyball complex, Pake Hagen will move from the dugout to the front office.
At the Rugby swimming pool, Eric Kuntz will be on a higher rung on the employee ladder than he has been in previous years.
This summer Kuntz, a 2011 graduate of Rugby High School and a student at Minot State University, takes on the position of pool manager after being a lifeguard for four previous years. Hagen, a 2010 RHS grad and a student at North Dakota State University, is the new Recreation director. Hagen was a coach last year.
Kuntz’s sister, Tara, held the manager position before him. Eric applied for the position when he found out it was open, and that his sister was pursuing other employment opportunities. It was announced in an April issue of the Pierce County Tribune that Kuntz would be pool manager while Hagen would be in charge of Rugby Recreation.
Some of Hagen’s duties as a director of Recreation include holding sign-ups for baseball, and making schedules for the Pee Wee, Babe Ruth and other summer baseball teams.
As manager, some of Kuntz’s responsibilities include scheduling of staff, making sure the pool is well-stocked with supplies, and, among other things, making sure the chlorine in the pool is within acceptable levels.
“I’m a little nervous, but once I get started it’ll be fine,” Kuntz said in regards to starting his duties.
Once their duties are complete for the summer, Kuntz will go back to MSU, where he is on the track & field team, and is majoring in elementary education. Hagen will go back to NDSU, where he majors in math and math education.
