Pops concert rehearsals beginPops concert rehearsals begin

By Staff | Mar 5, 2012

Rehearsals begin for Village Arts’ community music program on Monday, March 12. A pops concert is planned for Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m.

The Heartland Civic Choir will begin again this season. Past choir members are asked to sing this season. Anyone who enjoys singing is invited to join the choir. One of the benefits the community group offers is open entry to any community member. Daryl Wissink will direct the group as they learn some upbeat pops selections.

The orchestra will be directed by Tilman Hovland. Anyone ages high school or above who enjoys playing an instrument may join the group. Deb Jenkins, program director, said, “We are happy to have musicians who may not have played in a long while. Someone may have played in high school, but really had no opportunity afterward to play in a performing ensemble. Don’t let a long absence from an instrument stop you! We have members who joined after not playing for 20-40 years.”

The choir will rehearse in the Rugby High School choir room from 7-8 p.m., while the full orchestra will rehearse from 8-9 p.m. in the high school band room.

Jenkins added, “I cannot emphasize enough how much it means to us to have new members in the choir or the orchestra. It’s a way to have a wonderful musical experience that requires very little timejust one hour a week.”
