Pink Ribbon Riders raise $40,000, with no snow
The Pink Ribbon Riders held a two-day Snow Run event, January 13 & 14 at Twin Oaks Resort, Bottineau, to raise funds for people diagnosed with breast cancer. This two-day snowmobile event is part of a seven-state tour. The North Dakota Snow Run raised $40,000 and they did it dealing with the challenge of no snow.
On Friday, Jan. 13 they welcomed riders to the 3rd Annual Snow Run with a traditional opening night Welcome Party with music and a silent auction. A vintage snowmobile outfit contest was held.
On Saturday, with only half of the normal number of participants in attendance, instead of the usual snowmobile run, the committee had planned tire golf and trike races, both events outside. Breast cancer survivors and their families were there along with participants. It was reported that a good time was had by all despite the lack of snow.
After an afternoon of family fun outside, the participants gathered for a banquet, awards/recognition, survivor presentations, and giveaways in addition to a live auction.
As participants in the Snow Run events they “Ride in honor and in memory of those we love and in memory and celebration of life,” according to their brochure.
Jeri Warrenburg, Rugby, participated in this year’s event at Bottineau.
Warrenburg wants to get the word out that both women and men with breast cancer in this area can apply for $500 in financial assistance from this program. The money can be used to help pay for gas, or medical bills or whatever the need is for the cancer survivor.
Six people in this area have been diagnosed this year, according to Warrenburg.
One way to apply is online at www.pinkribbonriders.com or contact Warrenburg at 208-1186 and she can print an application from the website for the cancer survivor to fill out and send in.
Next year, join in the fun. If a person has a snowmobile they can participate in the run but if they don’t, come anyway. Snowmobiles can be decorated for breast cancer awareness (lots of pink). Best Decorated Sled wins a prize. A bra decorating contest is another traditional event for this group.
