Friends of the Museum organizing Jan. 21
An organizational meeting of Friends of the Prairie Village Museum will be held Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. in the Otter Tail Power Company community room in Rugby. Refreshments will be served.
Volunteers have always played a vital role in preserving local history and presenting it to the public through the collections, buildings and programs at Prairie Village Museum. To encourage more public involvement, the Geographical Center Historical Society Board has authorized the creation of Friends of the Museum.
Friends of the Museum may volunteer as their schedules permit, from a couple of hours a season to daily participation. Immediate needs include: putting labels on 5,000 brochures to be distributed by North Dakota Tourism; help with newsletter and other mailings; organizing and executing Spring Clean-Up Day; planning the Village Fair, Museum Camp and two new family events; and helping with selection and purchase of items for the museum gift shop.
During the summer, volunteers may assist with every aspect of museum operations, from working the front desk and caring for the grounds, to giving guided tours to school children.
Friends of the Museum will elect officers and meet as often as the group deems necessary. Cathy Jelsing, director, will serve as liaison between the Historical Society Board and Friends of the Museum.
The only requirement for joining Friends of the Museum is current membership in the Geographical Center Historical Society. All ages are welcome. Memberships will be available at the meeting. Single memberships are $10; family memberships (two adults living in the same household and all children
