Jehovah’s Witnesses build new hall in four days
Over 650 volunteers participated in a Kingdom Hall Quick Build from Thursday, Aug. 18 to Sunday, Aug. 21 at 301 5th Avenue North in Rugby.
“We have found that poured concrete walls are the most efficient,” said David Thompson, Rugby.
The concrete was poured in July by volunteers. Then they came back for the four-day build. Approximately 400 tradesmen were onsite each of the four days working on different parts of the building. Brick layers, electricians, roofers, etc. all worked at the same time.
“We do it (building) quick then get back to preaching,” said Thompson.
Over four hundred were fed for breakfast and lunch on Friday, Aug. 19. They were fed from a specially designed kitchen in a semi-trailer. One group of volunteers cooked and served the meals. The semi kitchen will remain on the property until next summer when it will be thoroughly cleaned and moved to Williston for a Kingdom Hall Quick Build there.
The Rugby congregation was started in a 24’x44′ building on Second Street NE. In 1991-92 the building was remodeled. In 2001 the building was made handicapped accessible and a parking lot was added. In 2010 the most recent property was sold.
An open house will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27 from 2-5 p.m. at 301 5th Avenue North. All are welcome to come and see the hall.
