Jaycees fundraising for a picnic shelter at east side park
The Rugby Jaycees have been working on fundraising for an east side park for a couple of years, now. Residents may have seen the collection cans in the grocery store and other businesses.
Ellery Park and the Southside Park serve the west side of town, but parents were concerned about young children from the east side of town having to cross Highway 3 to get to those locations. The Jaycees decided that an east side park would be a solution to that safety issue. They found a place to put the park at the east end of 6th Street SE.
Then the Jaycees set about raising funds for playground equipment. They bought playground equipment and now want to build a shelter and a pathway to the play equipment.
Residents who want to leave a mark on Rugby will have a special way to do it with the Buy a Brick Program sponsored by the Jaycees. It’s fairly simple: people can purchase as many 4″x8″ bricks or 8″x8″ bricks with engraving on it as they wish. The engraving will be in all capital letters. The bricks can be purchased to observe a special event in someone’s life, honor a friend or family member, or memorialize someone special. Stock symbols/logos or artwork can be added for additional money. (See ad in this paper for prices)
The bricks will be used around the shelter as a walkway or stepping stones.
Order forms are available at i design, McCabe Family Chiropractic, and Hardware Hank. Questions can be directed to either Danielle McCabe at 771-2802 or Tonia Dosch at 208-0439. Bricks can also be ordered online at www.bricksrus.com/order/rugbyjaycees.
The Jaycees have extended the deadline for ordering to Wednesday, Aug.31.
