Happy Birthday, North Dakota

On Tuesday, Nov. 2 North Dakota will be 121 years old. The state will celebrate its 125th Anniversary of Statehood in 2014.

In 1889, it became the 39th state admitted to the union when President Harrison signed the Proclamation of Admission for North Dakota and South Dakota.

The process towards statehood began on Feb. 22, 1889, when President Cleveland signed the Enabling Act. Then, on Oct. 1 of that year, the state’s voters approved its new constitution.Out of 35,548 votes cast, 77% of the voters voted in favor of statehood.
