Rugby man faces several charges

By Staff | Aug 27, 2010

A Rugby man is charged with criminal trespass, reckless endangerment, DUI and fleeing law enforcement after a wild incident on Tuesday evening, Aug. 24, in Rugby which involved a pursuit by the Rugby Police and Pierce County Sheriff’s departments with the assistance of the Rugby Fire Department.

Travis Favel, 37, was eventually arrested after the pursuit ended with his striking a deputy’s vehicle with an ATV, according to Luis Coca, police chief.

The incident started about 7 p.m. when a resident called 911 to report a man illegally entering their east side home. The suspect, later identified as Favel, allegedly gained entrance through an unlocked door. After being confronted in the home, he left and went next door where he took a ‘Gator’ ATV and fled the area. As law enforcement was arriving to the 911 call, they spotted Favel and began following him into the downtown business district.

The Rugby Fire Department was called and used some of its vehicles to block off streets to assist law enforcement.

Favel was transported to the Heart of America Medical Center to be checked out for injuries and eventually transported to Trinity Hospital in Minot. He now is being held without bond in the Heart of America Correctional and Treatment Center.

More charges could be filed. The police along with the sheriff’s office and N.D. Highway Patrol and N.D. Bureau of Criminal Investigation are still investing the incident.
