Name that building
A new multi-use building will be completed soon on the Pierce County Fairgrounds, but it needs a name.
And that’s where the Pierce County Fair Board, Rugby Park Board and Pierce County Commission want the public’s input.
A contest has been started to name the building which will get its first use at the upcoming Pierce County Fair.
The contest is free and entry blanks can be found at local restaurants and financial institutions as well as the Rugby chamber of commerce office located at the visitor’s center. There are jars also located at those locations in which the forms can be dropped in. The deadline to submit a name suggestion is Friday, June 25.
Officials from the fair board, park board and county commission will select a name. The winner will receive a prize package, including passes to this year’s fair events as well as fireworks.
“We’re honored to be the first organization to use the building, but by no means is this just for the fair,’ said Don Jelsing, fair board president. “This building will serve many uses in the community and that’s the reason to have the public name it. They are helping to support it through their tax dollars.”
Putting a name to the building will also help to identify it easier. “It shouldn’t just be referred to that new building,” quipped Jelsing.
This spring, the Rugby Park Board approved the construction of the building on the west side of the fairgrounds. Mike Swanson Construction of Rugby is putting up the structure.
The fair association has agreed to help raise funds for the building which will be used this year to house exhibits. Anyone who is interested in contributing, financially, can contact Jelsing (208-2886).
