Work to begin on Eastside park

By Staff | May 7, 2010

Representatives from Midwest Playscapes will be on hand to direct and help with the construction at the new park on the east side next week.

The company will bring all the tools and equipment needed to assemble the playground. The only thing needed is the manpower, according to Tonia Dosch, Jaycees member.

Rugby Jaycees are asking for volunteers on May 13-16 to assist in the installation of the new playground equipment at the park (corner of 6th St SE and 7th Ave SE, just west of the walking path bridge). Installation will take place from 8 a.m. until dark each day. It is a supervised installation.

Volunteers need to be junior high age and up. The first day or so includes unwrapping the bubble wrap from each of the pieces, so no heavy lifting is required by all. Ideally 12-15 volunteers are needed for the majority of the time.

For more details or to sign-up to help, contact Dosch at 208-0439 or Danielle McCabe at 771-2802.

The Rugby Park District received a grant for $50,000 from the Otto Bremer Foundation. The funds were presented to the board and the Rugby Jaycees last month.

Garrison Diversion Conservancy District recently awarded $20,000 to the Rugby Park District for the development of the park.

Although the equipment has been ordered and grant money has come it, the Park District and the Jaycees have yet to reach their fundraising goal. Donations are still being accepted and can be sent to: Rugby Jaycees at PO Box 384.
