Vehicles taken from Rugby, area, later recovered
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and Rugby Police Department had a busy March 4 tracking down three stolen vehicles reported in Rugby and near Wolford and later recovered.
Eventually, a suspect was taken into custody in connection with the stolen vehicles, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s office.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. Rugby Police Sgt. Moen responded to a missing vehicle. Richard Modine, of 815 3rd St. N.W., reported is 1985 Cadillac was missing from his driveway. Moen noticed a 2008 Subaru Legacy in the street in front of the Modine residence.
An check revealed the Subaru was taken from a Minot Mobile Estates trailer park earlier in the morning. It was not reported stolen, however, until the police department made inquiries at to the owner of the vehicle.
The department learned the Minot Police Department reported several vehicles stolen in their jurisdiction on March 4. One of the stolen cars was located in the trailer park near the location where the Subaru was taken.
At around 7 a.m., Jeremy McDaniel of Rugby reported his Ford F-150 pickup was stolen at 116 6th Ave. N.E.. It was a company truck. The department quickly located that vehicle on a street adjacent from Leever’s Foods.
Later in the morning the stolen Cadillac was located in front of the Corrigidor Bar in Wolford around 8:45 a.m. A 2007 Chevy Impala was then taken from Jeff Walsh in the Wolford area. That car was eventually found in the Belcourt area.
The sheriff and police department’s were assisted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and U.S. Border Patrol. The case remains under investigation.
