Just over $3 million in new construction reported
The number of building permits issued in the city of Rugby so far this year almost equals the figure of 2008.
However, this year’s building has accounted for nearly $2 million more in estimated valuation.
The value of the 33 permits issued this year is $3,067,700, according to city records. In 2008, there were 30 permits with a value of $1,134,900.
A few large building projects, most notably the new North Star Community Credit Union along U.S. Highway 2, are behind the sharp increase in the value. That NSCCU project is estimated at $1.8 million.
Other large projects included building a mechanic shop (Ray’s Repair) on the east edge of the Industrial Park estimated at $300,000. Two residential dwellings were constructed at a value of $350,000. An office space addition at Farmers Union Oil Company’s North Station is estimated at $150,000. And renovation to Third St. Station Bar and Grill was estimated at $100,000.
A majority of the building permits were for construction of garages, sheds and additions to homes. The values ranged from $45,000 to $1,500.
