Council to consider confirming assessments
The Rugby City Council will meet this Monday evening, Oct. 19, and likely will confirm the special assessment list for the District 1-2009 city-wide street improvements. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Otter Tail Power Co. community meeting room.
Last month the special assessment committee met and certified the listing following a hearing. There were a number of property owners who contacted city officials and committee members regarding errors to their assessment. Many adjustments to their assessment figures were made.
Any property owner may appeal the action of the special assessment committee by filing a written notice of appeal to Rugby City Auditor-Administrator. At that Oct. 19 meeting, anyone may appear to present reasons why the actions of the assessment committee should not be confirmed.
The council may increase or diminish any such assessment as it deems appropriate, the aggregate assessment, however, will not be changed. If the council does confirm the assessment listing, property owners than have 10 days to pay off their assessment in full and receiving a five percent discount.
