Council to revisit application for tax exemption

By Staff | Aug 13, 2009

At the Rugby City Council’s Sept. 8 meeting, the council will again consider an application filed by Harley Johnson, Killarney, Manitoba, for property tax exemption on a planned $1 million 14-unit housing complex in Prairie View Estates tailored toward seniors citizens.

Earlier this month, the council voted 4-3 to deny Johnson’s application for a five-year exemption which would feature 100 percent tax relief in year one; 80 percent in year two; 60 percent in year three; 40 percent in year four; and 20 percent in year five.

The Rugby Job Development Authority recommended approving a five-year 100 percent exemption for Johnson.

Any competitor of that applicant may appear to comment on the application. Written comments will also be accepted prior to the meeting. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.
