A 45-year-old California man died at the scene of a head-on collision between his 2009 Dodge Charger and a Mack semi truck along N.D. Highway 3 approximately 10 miles north of Harvey in Pierce County.

The accident occurred around 9:35 a.m. on Aug. 6, according to the N.D. Highway Patrol.

Ray R. Gibbons, San Diego, died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision with a truck driven by Arnold Seefeld, 74, of Harvey. Seefeld was taken to a Harvey hospital and treated and later released.

According to the accident report, Gibbons was driving southbound on N.D. 3, traveling approximately 65 to 70 miles per hour when he reportedly crossed over the center line and proceeded south down the northbound lane. Seefeld, who was traveling northbound to a gravel pit, braked and turned to the right to avoid the oncoming Gibbons, but the two vehicles hit head-on. Gibbons’ car came to rest in the east ditch facing south while Seefeld’s truck came to rest in the east ditch facing northeast.

Gibbons had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Harvey Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Pierce County Sheriff Robert Graber. Both men were wearing seat belts.
