Overlay work added to street project
The Rugby City Council approved additional overlay work to the city-wide street improvement project, using project contingency funds to cover the costs. The action was taken at a special council meeting on July 17.
The change orders include an overlay for the last two and one-half blocks of 4th St. S.W. Initially, that segment of street was to receive only a seal coat. However, a closer inspection by officials indicated an inch overlay was necessary. The costs are figured to be about $29,000.
A three-inch overlay will be applied to 6th St. S.W., which currently is a gravel road. Initially, four inches of asphalt was recommended, but it was later reduced. The council agreed to three inches pending agreement with the project engineer. A four-inch overlay will also be added to a small section of gravel along 9th St. S.W. That cost is estimated at $5,800.
Some other additions included paving a small stretch of 8th St. S.W., known as Alternate 3, for about $2,300; and paving a small area near the municipal pool for bicycle parking at a cost of $2,800.
