Balta man dies in rollover

A one vehicle rollover four miles west of Esmond in Pierce County on July 16 claimed the life of a 44-year-old Balta man, who was a passenger.

Robert Wolf died from injuries after being ejected from the car, a 1989 BMW, driven by 45-year-old Curtis Gray, also of Balta, who was injured. The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m.,according to a report from the N.D. Highway Patrol.

The car was traveling westbound on N.D. Highway 19 when it veered off the right shoulder. When the driver over-corrected to the left, and came back onto the highway before going into the south ditch and rolling several times before coming to a rest in the south ditch facing east, according to the report. Gray was taken to Rugby’s Heart of America Medical Center by the Esmond Ambulance Service and later transported to a Minot hospital.

Gray was wearing a seat belt while Wolf was not, according to the report. The Esmond Rural Fire Department and Pierce Co. Sheriff’s Department also assisted in the accident which remains under investigation. No charges have been filed. Alcohol is not a contributing factor to the crash, the patrol said.
