Corrections center ownership transfer is June 22
This Monday, June 22, the Rugby Area Job Development Authority (JDA) will officially take over ownership of Rugby’s corrections and treatment center.
The JDA applied for and received a grant through USDA to help with the purchase the facility at the appraised price of just over $2 million. Of that amount, the JDA will receive a facilities loan at $467,100; and then restructure payment of the appraise loan value of just over $1.6 million.
Representatives of USDA Rural Development and the JDA will meet at 10 a.m. at the JDA office downtown to finalize the transaction, which has extend into six months.
The JDA will lease the nearly three-year-old facility to the county for a period of 20 years. An advisory board will oversee the operation. The monthly loan payments are estimated to be $13,000, says Brenda Dissette, city economic development director.
As part of the change, the facility has a new name – Heart of America Correctional and Treatment Center.
