Fire destroys shop at Pine Ridge Turkey Farm
A morning fire on March 20 destroyed a workshop and some large equipment at the Pine Ridge Turkey Farm LLP about 10 miles south of Rugby.
Five Rugby Fire Department units and 18 firefighters responded to the call around 7:45 a.m. When they arrived, it was apparent neither the building nor its contents could be saved, said Gary Kraft, fire chief.
“The fire was fully involved (in the building),’ he said.
Among the items inside were a payloader and skid steer loader. It was speculated fire from a hanging furnace unit in the shop may have been the cause.
Kraft estimates the shop was about 50 by 80 feet. None of the other buildings on the farm, including the turkey barns and residence, were damaged. Firefighters were on the scene for about five hours, dousing hot spots, Kraft said.
