Residents can now file for school board

By Staff | Feb 27, 2009

Two school board seats are up for election this June, and residents living in Precincts No. 2 and No. 4 can now file to be placed on the ballot to run for the three-year seats.

Nicholas Schmaltz currently represents Precinct No. 2, which includes the townships of Dewey, Walsh, Ness, Jefferson, Sandale, Elling, Girard, Hillside, Rosedale and Alexanter.

Board member Alecia Pretzer’s Precinct No. 4 term is up in June as well. That precinct is the city of Rugby.

An at-large vote will be taken to fill the two seats. An individual seeking election to the board needs to prepare and sign a candidate filing statement and statement of interest form. The documents must be submitted to the district’s business manager no later than 4 p.m. on April 10. Those forms can be obtained from the district business manager, Charlotte Burkhartsmeier. For more information, contact Burkhartsmeier at 776-5201.

Also on the June 9 ballot, voters will be asked whether minutes of the school board proceedings should be published in the district’s official newspaper — The Pierce County Tribune.
