Rugby youth pageant winners crowned

Lexi Wyman, of Newburg, and Cara Mund, of Bismarck, were voted Miss Geographic Center and Miss Rugby, respectively, at the Miss Rugby Scholarship Pageant

The Miss Rugby Scholarship Pageant was held Aug. 9 at Rugby High School’s Tilman Hovland Auditorium. The pageant is a preliminary to Miss North Dakota and Miss North Dakota’s Outstanding Teen pageants, which are held in Williston. There were 18 participants from Rugby and around the state. There were also guest performances from Miss North Dakota Jacky Arness and Miss North Dakota’s Outstanding Teen, Raghen Lucy, along with last year’s local titleholders.

The princess program participants were: Madison and Jade Haaland of Leeds; Mariah Barnes of Maddock; Aubree Wolfe of Esmond; and Tyra Lysne, Emma Loughman, Riley Grove and Brylee Amyotte, all of Rugby. The princesses performed an opening number, showcased their sportswear, evening wear and some performed a talent. All of the princesses received a certificate, crown and photo session with Ashley B Photography.

The Outstanding Teen participants were Alexis Lies, Kaycee Froysland and Lauryn Hinckley. Froysland, of Fargo, performed a baton twirling act and was crowned Miss Geographic Center’s Outstanding Teen 2015.

Hinckley, of Bismarck, performed a jazz dance to the song “Meet Me at the Roxy” and was crowned Miss Rugby’s Outstanding Teen 2015.

The title winners received a $50 Visa card (to purchase a $100 college savings bond), official teen sash and crown and photo shoot with Jennifer Zachmeier.

Seven Miss contestants competed at the pageant. They included: Lexi Wyman, Hannah Berg, Cara Mund, Alyssa Ralston, Savanna Buskness, Lakien Vetter and Mickayla Dvorak. The contestants performed talents including dance, singing, monologues and musical theatre. Wyman was awarded the title of Miss Geographic Center. She wowed the crowd playing guitar and singing a song she wrote called “This Country Life”. She is from Newburg, where she is going to be a seniorin high school. Her platform is Dream.

Mund was awarded the title of Miss Rugby. She performed a self-choreographed jazz dance to “The Way You Make Me Feel”. Her platform is A Make-A-Wish Passion with Fashion. She is from Bismarck and currently a junior at Brown University.

Both Wyman and Mund received $500 scholarships, official miss sashes and crowns, photo shoots from Jennifer Zachmeier, and spots to represent Rugby at the Miss North Dakota State Pageant in Williston in June 2015.

Grove was voted the People’s Choice winner for this year’s pageant. The pageant was judged by Mackenzie Schmaltz, Marley Zachmann and Erica Shively, all of Bismarck; and Shelley Block and Mariel Procter of Rugby. The Rugby pageant is an annual event.
