Rugby school bond issue passes

By Staff | Jun 8, 2010

Rugby School District voters came out in big numbers on June 8, and 63 percent of them supported the issuance of a $6 million zero-interest general obligation bonds to complete major renovation and construct a new addition at the Jr.-Sr. High.

A total of 855 ballots were cast and 537 approved the measure with 318 voting against it. At least 513 were needed to reach the 60 percent threshold for the bond to pass.

“I think this outcome shows a progressive community,’ said Cory Johnson, school board member.

“I’m extremely pleased with the voter support,’ added fellow board member Susan Schmaltz.

The vote clears the way for school officials and project architects to begin putting final designs together and plan construction which likely will start in the spring of 2011.
