Dan Seykora, a middle school mathematics teacher at Rugby High School, has been named a recipient of the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teacher (PAEMST).
Conferred by President Joe Biden, the award is the highest recognition for science, technology, engineering, mathematics and computer science educators for their dedication to student learning.
According to a release from Rugby Public Schools, Seykora is among only 300 educators and mentors recognized nationwide for their exemplary contributions to advancing education and inspiring future generations.
“Dan Seykora represents the very best of what we strive for in education,” said Mike McNeff, superintendent of Rugby Public Schools. “His passion for mathematics and his commitment to student success have made a lasting impact at Rugby High School. He ensures that all students understand math and goes to great lengths to achieve this. We couldn’t be more proud of this well-deserved honor.”
Seykora has been teaching mathematics at RHS for eight years and is known for his engaging and student-focused teaching style, according to the release. McNeff lauded Seykora for continually seeking innovative ways to connect with students, and for his involvement in a career-connected learning pilot program designed to enhance the relevance of math education for his learners.
The PAEMST program, administered by the National Science Foundation (NSF) on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), has recognized exceptional educators since 1983. Recipients are selected based on their distinction in the classroom and their dedication to improving STEM education. Awardees receive a certificate signed by the U.S. president, a $10,000 award from NSF and an invitation to attend a series of celebratory events in Washington, D.C.
