DECA club holds penny war fundraiser to pie teachers
The Rugby High School DECA club held a penny war fundraiser to raise awareness of the micro preemie unit within the Sanford Health NICU. The fundraiser raised a total of $1,070.01 which exceeded their goal of $1,000.
Each grade earned points by placing pennies and bills in their dedicated class jar and sabotaged their opponents by placing silver coins in other class’ collection jars to deduct points. The 11th grade class were the victors and earned 17,461 points and got to pie four teachers.
Rugby Public School’s eighth grade class earned a special bonus as they had the most money in their jar, $400.97.
“I’m thrilled about DECA’s presence in Rugby Public Schools, as it brings a newfound excitement to marketing education and raises awareness of career opportunities in the field. It’s inspiring to see students engaging with real-world concepts and building skills that will serve them well in the future,” said Kylee Lemieux, DECA advisory chairperson and marketing manager at North Star Community Credit Union. “As I have observed and collaborated with these remarkable young individuals throughout the last few months, I am profoundly moved by their dedication and unwavering commitment to growing their knowledge and making a difference. Their recent penny war fundraiser not only speaks volumes about their compassion but also reflects the spirit of unity within our community. The student’s eagerness to join us in supporting Children’s Miracle Network and Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo leaves a lasting impression and I couldn’t be prouder to continue making a difference with them.”
