Rugby student receives top award at play contest

Rugby High School senior Ryli Kuhnhenn was presented with the Superior Actor award during the 2023 North Dakota High School Activities Association State Class B One-Act Play Contest.

She received the award for her work as the narrator/enchantress in “The Brothers Grimm Spectaulathon.”

The contest was held Nov. 20-21 at the University of Jamestown in Jamestown.

The Rugby performance of the fairy tale/fantasy directed by Trista Busche included actors, in addition to Kuhnhenn: Kason Connot, Lexi Yoder, Allison Selensky, Asher Benson, Evelyn Roberts, Sierra Heilman, Olivia Towe and Leah Goyne. Tambrey Brossart was in charge of lights.

Other top eight places awarded at the finals in Jamestown included:

– South Prairie performing “The Perfect Ending.”

Other Superior Actor Awards were awarded to area actors:

– Jersey Heinle, Glenburn.

– Keli Neuman, Carrington.

– Hali Heart, New Town.

– Mya Woodbeck, Bowbells/Burke Central.

– Joshua Lindbo, South Prairie.

Schools qualified for state from one of the 10 regional contests held in early to mid-November, including:

– Rugby

– Bowbells/Burke Central.

– Carrington.

-New Town.

– South Prairie.
